The European Lacrosse League has crowned a new champion. Deutschland Adler, the only German team in the league, won the playoff tournament to win the league title.
Deutschland had to get past the Wolves in the championship game, which was no easy task. The Wolves had won two of the three regular season tournaments. They finish in second for the season, with the Custodes third and Pietro Filipi fourth and in last place.
Adler led 3-0 right away before Radek Skala, the league’s leading scorer, put the Wolves on the board. Deutschland once again pulled away before the Wolves came back and trailed 7-6. However, just two more goals would be scored and Adler would win 8-7.
Marc Brandenburger scored twice for Deutschland along with Jamie Plunkett and Pavel Dosley. Skala had three goals for the losing Wolves. Thoms Cekel made 12 saves for Adler.
The league also gave out the following awards for the tournament:
The best defensive player: Adrian Balasch (PIF)
The best offensive player: Brian Tyacke (DEA)
The best transition player: Klaus Hauer (PIF)
The best goalie: Tomáš Čekal (DEA)
MVP according to points: Radek Skála (WOL, 68 p. for 56 goals and 12 assists)
