Ohio has been a team that goes into the Collegiate draft with a lot of picks and comes out with big name players. This 2015 draft was a little different they did not have a bunch of draft picks and only added one big name offensive player.
Their top need was midfield depth with the team did address with taking three midfielders but did trade away a close veteran close defender and only drafted one. Also they did not take a goalie which some people thought the Machine would.
With the first pick the Machine had they went and grabbed Jimmy Bitter who has been a starter since day one at UNC. Getting Jimmy came at the cost of trading away defender Max Schmidt which does not make much sense. Yes Logan Schuss is playing for the Swarm while fellow attack man Marcus Holman is on the practice roster but both may be back by the time Jimmy Bitter is done wearing Tar heel blue.
Ohio looked away from the attack the rest of the draft going with midfield depth while drafting Delaware’s top midfielder Brian Kormondy, John Reicherter out of Hofstra. Machine also took local Midfielder David Planning out of Ohio State. Matt McMahon out of Penn was the lone Long Pole defender taking which Ohio needs most right now. Also Machine second pick came in the fourth round when they took Ryan Izzo midfielder out of Umass to boosts its defensive midfield position.
Overall the Machine get a C for this 2015 draft it could be higher depending on the impact of Jimmy Bitter this summer.
