When the Boston Cannons hired Steve Duffy as their head coach last season, it was met with universal agreement that he was a good fit with the team. It turns out he was, as he led the Cannons to the MLL Playoffs.
Duffy was hired in the middle of last off season, and for the first time in his career, he will have a full off season to help build his team up.
“In my first full off season, I found it to be pretty busy with continuous communication within our organization and other MLL organizations.” said Duffy. “Draft preparation and the usually Boston Cannons lacrosse stuff in the Boston area have kept us busy as well.
“We are full throttle into the draft. The early Fall we spend on the College Draft and trying to see as many college Fall Ball games as we could. Over the last month we have switched gears to the Supplemental Draft. We’ll get back to the College draft after the Supplemental with watching as much film as we can.”
Duffy led the Cannons to a playoff berth after they won a Championship in 2011. It did not end as they hoped in 2012, losing in the first round to the Bayhawks, but Duffy is still proud of his team.
“Proud to have coached a tremendous group of players, but disappointed with the way the season ended; I am glad to have a season under my belt. ”
He maintains that the team is ready for 2013. “Personally, I am looking forward to the 2013 season having had the experience of last year. As a program, it is always our goal to will the MLL Championship and we have been preparing since our Semi-Final loss”
