After a chain of ripple effects caused by transitioning college coaches, Duke University Men’s lacrosse hired Ben DeLuca today as the volunteer assistant coach for the 2014 season.
For those who don’t remember, DeLuca was the head coach at Cornell University, where he is coming off a 2013 season of 14-4 and a 6-0 Ivy League title. In the fall, Cornell fired him after incidences of team hazing were reported to the school. As the face of the program, he was naturally let go.
The ripple effect transitions amongst coaches starts with Travis Johnson leaving Mount St. Mary’s to become the first coach of NJIT. To replace him at Mount St. Mary’s Joe Cinosky left Duke a month ago to take the place of full-time assistant. Now, Ben DeLuca takes the volunteer assistant position left vacant by Cinosky.
Ben DeLuca also recently served as a scouting reporter and evaluator for Team USA tryouts and Champion Challenge to Richie Meade’s staff.
