Great Danes Pack Up Against Nittany Lions

Who: Albany @ Penn State

When: Saturday, March 22, 2014

Where: University Park, PA.

PSU is gearing up for another outdoor home game this weekend in Happy Valley.  After defeating Dartmouth 10-6 on Saturday, they’re hoping to channel that momentum into this weekend’s match. The Lions started this match a bit shaky, but were able to get into a great flow during the second half of the match.

Sanders had a two-goal game, and Kaut led the Blue and White in goal. The team seems to be trying new things and they are certainly mastering the old. The attack line has been distributing the ball well throughout this whole season, and the team’s number of goals is certainly a reflection of that.

If PSU can keep up a steady energy paired with their skillful offense, they should see vast improvements this weekend.

Albany is the 2013 America East champion, and they are taking the 2014 season by storm. Their remarkable offense has been performing, even though their 2-3 record doesn’t exactly reflect their level of play. The three losses that Albany has were within one point of their opponent, and their first loss ended in overtime.

The Great Danes are also competing this year with a former Nittany Lion who left the days of Blue and White in the past and is now sporting Purple and Gold. Riley Lasda joined Albany’s force this year, and has already seen more playing time with the Danes than he did with the Lions. He’s also tied his number of goals scored at Penn State.

The Great Danes are going to be tough to beat. Not only do they have a solid defense, they have the Thompson trio on the attack line. Brothers Miles and Lyle, joined by cousin Ty, dominate Albany’s offense, bringing in 50 percent of the team’s goals combined.

Both teams have fantastic scorers and the ability to keep the intensity level of the game high—it’s certainly going to be a close contest in the Valley this weekend.
