Teams Prepare for Final Four Showdown

May 22, 2015

NCAA Championship Lax Eve Day has arrived.  We are only 24 hours from the start of the Division 1 Championship weekend.  So what better way to start then to have practice. The #1 overall Fighting Irish of Notre Dame were first to take the field.  The Irish finished the regular season at 12-2 (loses to Duke and Denver).  The Irish defeated Towson 12-10 and Albany 14-10 to make it to…

NCAA Final Four Preview: Who Expected This?

May 20, 2015

At the beginning of the season, many people had Denver and Notre Dame in Philadelphia for Championship weekend. But Maryland?  Some people may have picked them, but the absence of Goran Murray, the availability of Matt Rambo, and the uncertainty in net were big question marks.  Turns out that the defense has been the strength of the Terps all year, which has them against….Johns Hopkins. Oh the Blue Jays, a…

Ohio State’s Season Comes to a Close

May 20, 2015

Early in their game against Denver, it appeared that I would be writing about Ohio State’s first ever trip to championship weekend. Alas, it was not meant to be, as the Pioneers overcame a 7-1 deficit early in the second quarter and tallied nine unanswered goals en route to a 15-13 win. Without further delay, here lies the 2015 Ohio State Buckeyes lacrosse season. This was a team… That could…

Simmons: Syracuse Done, So What Now?

May 19, 2015

Well the final four is set. We have Notre Dame vs. Denver and Johns Hopkins vs. Maryland. I have to say, I am very surprised that Maryland won, but I’m more surprised at how it won. I did not expect that the Carolina offense would struggle so badly; it was never really close at all. I expected the UNC attack to run all over Maryland and outscore the Terps significantly,…

Many Routes Taken to Final Four

May 19, 2015

If you asked anyone in early April who would make the Final Four, how many people would have picked Notre Dame, Denver, Maryland and Johns Hopkins? Anyone? Pretty unlikely. Would anyone have even picked three of the four teams? These teams have one thing in common. They have advanced to Championship Weekend. Besides that, they are actually quite different. What’s the takeaway message? You can take many routes to the…

Maryland Dominates, Ends UNC’s Season

May 18, 2015

It’s been a repeated saying for the past few years: North Carolina looks like a team that can make it to Championship Weekend, but then falls short. And it happened yet again on Sunday on the campus of the Naval Academy, as Maryland dominated North Carolina 14-7. Entering the day, North Carolina had one of the best offenses in the entire country, which included attackmen Jimmy Bitter and Joey Sankey….

What Went Right in the Annapolis Quarterfinals

The last two tickets were punched for the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for Memorial Weekend. Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland, both members of the newly minted B1G Ten Lacrosse Conference, will face off in the second semifinal. Hopkins outlasted Syracuse, 16-15, and Maryland ran away from North Carolina, 17-7. Hopkins and Syracuse may have played in the game of the year. The hot conditions at…

Denver Advances Past Ohio State to Final Four

May 18, 2015

Denver held on to beat Ohio State 15-13 after Ohio initially pulled ahead 7-1 in Saturday’s matchup. It seems despite a loss for the Buckeyes, they are indeed for real and have the necessities to go all the way in the near future. Despite a win for DU, they played one of their more sloppy games this past weekend and will most assuredly need to regroup before this upcoming Championship…

Johns Hopkins Stuns Syracuse to Advance to Final Four

May 17, 2015

For just the fourth time ever, the Syracuse Orange were taken down in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The story of the day for Hopkins was graduate student Eric Schneider. Schneider picked up 15 saves and has been on a recent “redemption tour” after getting torched several times early in the season. At certain points it looked like nothing would be getting past him as he made some phenomenal…
