Chamberlain’s Weekend Preview

March 6, 2014

With five games inside the top 20, I’m in a NY State of mind for this week’s preview. #1 Maryland @ Stony Brook—Interesting matchup as Maryland travels to Stony Brook’s LaValle stadium. The Seawolves are coming off an inspiring 12-9 win over Rutgers, while the Terps defeated Duke 10-6 at Byrd Stadium last week. Look for this game to be settled at the faceoff with Charlie Raffa having the edge…

Chamberlain: Behind the Box Score Rutgers vs Stony Brook

March 3, 2014

Behind Chris Hughes four goals and Kyle Rowe’s 16 for 24 faceoff performance, the Stony Brook Seawolves defeated Rutgers 12-9 at a cold LaValle Stadium on Saturday Night. Below are my observations that go beyond the box score. Stony Brook’s Faceoff team. (It’s more than just the FOGO Kyle Rowe) had a very strong game, with Long Stick Dylan Curry and SSDM Lucas Rock boxing out Rutgers wing players, for…

A portion of this weekend’s schedule says it all. Seven great games over the course of the day make this weekend special. One would think that this is a late season schedule in April, but it’s March 1 and there are going to be changes to the polls. This is a lacrosse fan’s dream weekend with so many intriguing matchups. #1 Duke @ #2 Maryland—Two Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams battling…

Syracuse Face off Struggles Downfall in Loss

February 23, 2014

A record 30 games were played in NCAA Division 1 on Saturday in the last weekend of play in February. Below is a quick recap of my observations from today’s Syracuse vs. Maryland game. The Terps came into the Carrier Dome for the first time since 1983 and won 19 of 27 face offs and outshot Syracuse 55-32 to double up Syracuse 16-8.  Junior Charlie Raffa was the man of the…

Chamberlain’s Thoughts on NCAA Opening Weekend

Shot Clock If you watched Johns Hopkins thrilling 10-9 triple overtime victory over Ohio State, some version of a shot clock is needed. The final two possession of regulation and all three overtimes were painful to watch with each team basically holding onto the ball for the last shot. With a 60 second shot clock from gaining possession into the offensive zone, the pace of play would be dramatically different…

Looking Ahead to NCAA Week One

A busy slate of games starts the unofficial opening weekend of the 2014 season. It’s the unofficial opening weekend, because while you were on the checkout isle buying guacamole for the Super Bowl last Saturday, Delaware defeated High Point 10-3 and Lehigh beat Furman 13-6 to start the 2014 season. My game of the weekend will be on TV Sunday on ESPNU, as Johns Hopkins attempts to rebound from not making the…

2014 Conference Champions Predictions

WRITTEN BY: BRENDAN CHAMBERLAIN With a new year upon us I’m going to dive right in and predict who will win their conference titles in 2014. ACC—This is going to be a slugfest between all six teams in this conference. Syracuse and Notre Dame are new to this league but I’m going with North Carolina as my ACC Champion, based on their depth on defense and strong goaltending by sophomore…
