Loyola Loses Bout at Home Against Great Danes

This match up was a showcase of the Thompson Trio and Loyola’s struggles to find offensive opportunities. Albany took the lead early, commanding 2-0.  Then, at 2:30 in the first, Loyola finally answered back when #34 Pat Laconi found the back of the net. Albany called a timeout. 2:04 in the first brought a goal by Jon Newhouse to make it 3-1 over Loyola. That would be Newhouse’s only goal…

Miles Thompson continues to pile up the points in chuncks, Jordan Wolf looks to be playing his best lacrosse when his team needs it most and…

Loyola Takes Patriot League Title

April 29, 2014

With NCAA lacrosse conference realignment on the horizon there were a few minor changes to the 2014 conferences in preparation for the big shift. One of the moves were the Loyola Greyhounds bouncing over to the Patriot League. The Greyhounds put on a show all season, educating the small-school teams in lacrosse IQ and competition levels. They went 14-1 all season and destroyed the majority of their conference opponents. This…

ACC Mashup Following Conference Play; Heading Into Tournament Games

April 28, 2014

Just a short month ago, Syracuse sat at 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the ACC. Their scoring margin was -6 but that reasonable statistic does not show the magnitude of the 16-8 loss to Maryland, 17-12 loss to Virginia and 21-7 loss to Duke. I’ve watched a lot of lacrosse in my life and I can definitively say that Maryland-SU and Duke-SU games easily top my list of the two…

Chamberlain: Conference Playoffs Begin

April 24, 2014

Friday Night Lights Kicks off an action packed Weekend of College and Pro Action Patriot League Playoffs Army vs. Lehigh I like Lehigh in this matchup between two very well coached teams. Lehigh is balanced on offense and has strong goaltending with junior Matt Poillion. My prediction is Lehigh by three. Loyola vs. Colgate I made the mistake of not picking Loyola in the regular season matchup. I’m not going…

WHERE: @ Georgetown WHEN: Wednesday March 19 @ 6:00 Loyola is one of, if not the hottest team in the country right now. After losing their season opener by one goal in overtime to Virginia, the Hounds have won six straight games, four of which have come against ranked teams. If the defense hadn’t collapsed worse than the Titanic in open ocean waters, the Hound would be 7-0 right now…

Sawyer, Pontrello Star in Loyola’s Rout of Duke

March 10, 2014

Duke thought that Mike Sawyer graduated last year. Well, they are right, he did. Unfortunately, for the Blue Devils, his brother Matt Sawyer did not. On Sunday, Loyola and Sawyer torched the Blue Devils in one of this weekend’s showcase games. Sawyer and junior Nikko Pontrello combined for 11 of the team’s 14 goals as the Greyhounds routed the Blue Devils 14-7. Sawyer scored six goals while Pontrello added five…

Loyola Greyhounds Shred Apart the Mountainhawks

March 2, 2014

My afternoon started with traffic and box office confusion. Once into the wonderful environment of Ulrich Sports Complex, I was surrounded by team cheering sections and loads of local high school players donning their varsity jackets. Loyola sure gave lacrosse lessons out today, demonstrating many different situations. By the time I was in, the first quarter was halfway over with Loyola on top at 3-1. Shortly after arriving, Lehigh’s Henderson…
