In front of 5,283 at Syracuse’s Carrier Dome, the fifth-ranked Maryland Terrapins defeated the No. 2 Syracuse Orange 16-8 on Saturday afternoon. The Terrapins second quarter 10-goal charge led them to an impressive victory over the Orange. Freshman Midfielder Connor Cannizzaro and Attackman Jay Carlson led the Terrapins in scoring with four points each, on three goals and one assist. Matt Rambo also contributed to the Terrapins’ win tallying two goals and one assist. Senior Niko Amato held it down in the cage for Maryland, making 11 saves on 19 shots.
Junior Midfielder Henry Schoonmaker scored three of Syracuse’s eight goals, but the Orange offense fell short. Sophomore Dylan Donahue added three points for Syracuse, notching one goal and two assists. Dominic Lamolinara and Bobby Wardwell both got time in net for the Orange, making seven and nine saves, respectively.
Syracuse looks to rebound from this tough loss on Saturday March 1 versus No. 7 Virginia. The 7:30 pm faceoff will take place at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Terrapins return home to College Park on Saturday March 1 to take on the No. 1 Blue Devils of Duke at 12:00pm. This game features two of the nation’s best programs, in a battle for the No. 1 Ranking.
