Playing starting goalie for the Buffalo Bandits is Kurtis (Kurt) Wagar. Born on November 5, 1985, #38 comes out of St. Catherines, Ontario and attended Brock University right in his hometown. Wagar stands six foot tall and 215 pounds. He signed onto the Buffalo Bandits as a free agent and adjacently plays for the Peterborough Lakers.
Well, I do believe that’s enough of the blah blah facts. Let’s get into the TRUE highlights of this goaltender:
The most crucial aspect to being a lacrosse goalie is a strong mentality. The position is at least 90% mindset for a few reasons:
- They step in front of shots 80 miles per hour on average from less than 30 feet away
- They are the most hated and easily accessible player on a visiting team for fans to harass
- They maintain the pace and cool of their team. If the goalie gets upset and anxious, the teammates will follow and fall apart.
It takes numerous amounts of positive reinforcement and constructive criticism abilities (both giving and accepting) for a player to truly become a great goaltender. Kurtis Wagar has an interesting perspective and route to success when it comes to staying mentality level and concrete: humor.
If a Twitter’er were to view Wagar’s ‘tweets’ they would grasp a decent understanding for Wagar’s sense of sarcastic, logical and encompassing comedic capabilities. Accepting of his faults, inclusive of players around the league, and socially aware are just the beginnings of Wagar’s quotes.
By the way, did I mention his Twitter name is @PatrickSwagzee??
Merica don’t be worried, if our government shut down The Beer Store and LCBO would too. #relax
Gonna miss @jonny_har what a beauty. Enjoy retirement bud. #cocktails
So what I couldn’t stop the best play of 2013?!?! Always next year. #goalieproblems
As readers, you can already see from three ‘tweets’ Kurt’s humor. He carries this mindset with him everywhere; the locker room, the fields, home life, etc. In a poll for most followed NLL players on the Twitter site, Kurt Wagar made the top ten at number 8!
For those who don’t understand or realize it, social networking sites, though accessible and public, are not the best sources of information. When Tweeting, creating a Facebook status, or writing a blog, the person posting must always remember to sensor what they type. Once statuses are officially set, even deleting them will not permanently erase them. Especially when in the public eyes like a professional athlete, those athletes must be careful about what they post.
I believe Kurt Wagar balances that magic act very well and is still able to get his humor out to the world. However, reading a few Twitter posts or following Wagar on Facebook cannot reveal the goalie’s full/true nature. Though I’m sure he is a gentleman and a scholar, anything read online (in general) should be taken with a grain of salt (or turf matting, whichever you prefer in your morning coffee).
Anyone looking forward to a good game of NLL lacrosse, a talented goalie in front of the cage, and some humor to go along with it all before, during and after said game, then the Buffalo Bandits, and Kurt Wagar specifically, are the ones to watch.
