Week three of the MILA has come and gone, with a few teams showing their dominance over the rest. Even though its still quite early in the season, there are teams that have already turned heads around the league.
The Chicago Outlaws moved to 2-0 with another victory over the Milwaukee Marauders. The game wasn’t even close, with the Outlaws leaving the score with a 23 to 7 victory. The Outlaws, who were Championship runner-ups, have put together an incredibly competitive team. They have their sights on one thing and one thing only, winning the MILA Championship.
The team that defeated the Outlaws in last season’s championship, the Grand Rapids Dragonfish, looked very impressive this weekend as well. They took on the Pittsburgh Octane in a battle that was heard on the Lacrosse Radio Network. Grand Rapids was up 10 to nothing at one point, but the Octane eventually did get a few shots past the keeper. The final score was 22 to 6 in favor of the host Dragonfish.
One of the new members of the league, the Cleveland Demons, ran away with a victory as well. They faced their Ohio rival, Southern Ohio Box Lacrosse. The game was Southern Ohio’s second in the league, and it took them letting in 18 goals before they scored one of their own. At the buzzer the score was Cleveland 26, Southern Ohio 3. Keep in mind that there was an incredible difference in numbers, as Cleveland had 20 players as opposed to Southern Ohio’s 8.
A real skill difference is already apparent between a few MILA teams and the rest of the league. Whether one of the new teams will challenge for a Championship is yet to be seen, but Chicago and Grand Rapids look very menacing early in the season. Next week has a good lineup of games, so some questions should be answered soon.
