MSL Three Stars: NLL Stars Shine

Major Series Lacrosse is filled with NLL super stars, and this week they reign supreme in the three stars of the week.

1st Star- Shawn Evans – Peterborough: (3 GP: 7 G,14 A, 21 P)

Peterborough’s Shawn Evans is quickly running away with the Major Series Lacrosse scoring title just nine games into the season. The Lakers’ playmaker leads all MSL runners in points with 55. Evans also leads the league in assists with 41. Evans has been finding the back of the cage with ease as he sits third in goals with 14, only behind brother Scott (19) and Kitchener-Waterloo’s Aaron Wilson (15). Evans has already topped his season totals of 50 points last season and is on pace to have his best year since the 2010 campaign when he registered 81 points and was ultimately named 2010 Mann Cup MVP.

Second Star – Shawn Williams – Brooklin (2 GP: 5 G, 7 A 12 P)

Shawn Williams has picked up where he left off from his 2012 season where he won the MSL scoring title. The veteran has led the Brooklin Redmen to an impressive 5-1-1 start. The 38-year-old currently sits second in points(38) and assists(26) while also posting a stellar 12 goals in just seven games. Williams has continued to prove why he is considered one of the best playmakers the game has helped improve his young teammates including Derek Hopcroft, Kiel Matiz and Kevin Brownell.

Third Star – Aaron Wilson – Kitchener/Waterloo (2 GP: 5 G, 8 A 13 P)

KW native Aaron Wilson has provided offensive power and veteran leadership to a young Kodiaks squad thus far in the 2013 season. Wilson had his best offensive output of the season in a 12-10 loss to Brampton, finding the back of the cage three times while adding five helpers for an impressive eight points. Wilson currently sits third in league scoring with 34 points while he has found the back of the cage 15 times, good enough for second amongst MSL runners. Wilson’s offensive success will be a direct correlation to how the season ends up for the very youthful Kodiaks this year.
