NCAA Preview: Lehigh Hopes to Defend Home Turf From Greyhounds

WHO: Loyola @ Lehigh

WHERE: Ulrich Sports Complex, Bethlehem, PA

WHEN: Saturday March 1 @ Noon

This coming weekend, Loyola will travel north to Bethlehem, PA to compete with the Mountainhawks. Lehigh remains undefeated thus far into the 2014 season at 4-0, while the Greyhounds sit at 3-1.

Loyola

These bad boys are coming off a 16-4 burying performance against Holy Cross. Four different Loyola players combined for 14 goals:

Brian Sherlock – 2 goals

Nikko Pontrello – 6 goals

Brian Schultz – 3 goals

Kevin Ryan – 3 goals

Most of their shots came from down low at attack positions. The Greyhounds fired 50 shots the entire game. As well, Joe Fletcher led a strong defensive unit with 8 ground ball recoveries for a Loyola total of 40.

Face off midfielder Graham Savio carried the team by winning 16-of-24 faces. A .667 win percentage on the day.

Lehigh

Lehigh is coming off a win against BostonUniversity. They remain undefeated and have been tested a small number of times this season.

Kurtis Kaunas had a quiet day in Boston, recording no goals or assists. The twine that was found was equally shared by many different teammates, creating a well-rounded offensive unit.

Scorers on the day include: Ryan Buttenbaum, Dylan O’Shaughnessy, Alex Eaton, Chris Appell, Ray Mastroianni, and Alan Henderson.

The Mountainhawks totaled 35 shots, 10 saves, 24 ground ball recoveries and 9 face off wins.

Prediction

Lehigh has a consistent program, but I don’t believe they’re ready for this game. Loyola is a high-scoring team going up against a consistently low-scoring team. The Greyhounds will likely win this game on face offs, shots, and ground balls. I’m calling for a blowout and hoping for an upset.
