NCAA Women’s Power Rankings: Maryland On Top

  1. Maryland (19-1)—The best team in all of NCAA women’s lacrosse, Maryland has more than one reason to win this year’s championship. Each player has the competitive nature that drives them to win, but with the championship taking place in their home state, they will definitely be playing extra hard to make it to the big game.
  2. Florida (15-2)—The Gators face John Hopkins tonight, where they hope to get one last win before the start of the NCAA Tournament. It won’t be easy, but the streaking Gators have what it takes to pull it off.
  3. Massachusetts (16-1)—The Atlantic 10 Tournament begins tonight for UMass, where they will be among the favorites to win. They haven’t lost a game since late March, and they don’t plan to heading into tournament play.
  4. Syracuse (17-2)—Syracuse came up short in the ACC tournament, losing to Maryland 13-7. This is certainly an opponent they will be thinking about a lot leading up to the NCAA tourney.
  5. North Carolina (14-4)—The Tarheels managed to squeak out a win against Boston College during the ACC Tournament, but fell to Syracuse the next day 7-9. This was the second time in just a few short weeks that Syracuse got the best of North Carolina.
  6. Johns Hopkins (15-3)—John Hopkins their first game in the ALC Tournament, defeating Penn State 13-10. Their trek for the title continues tonight when they take on Florida.
  7. Boston College (12-5)—The Eagles had been hot at the end of the season, but even they stood no chance against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. Next, they face Boston University on March. 3.
  8. Northwestern (11-5)—The Wildcats won their first game in the ALC Tournament, defeating Vanderbilt 12-9. Tonight, they face #10 Ohio State.
  9. Notre Dame (9-8)—Losing has been the story for the Irish at the close of this season. Unfortunately, this streak continued into conference tournament play, where they fell to Syracuse 16-11.
  10. Duke (9-8)—Surprisingly, Duke fell early in the ACC Tournament, losing to Virginia, a team they defeated just weeks before. This was no doubt a disappointing loss for the Blue Devils, who couldn’t even net more than five goals.
