Our nation’s future airmen and sky monitors have also been quite busy this offseason preparing their 2015 roster for NCAA play. However, it may not be in the most traditional of ways.
Every college team has offseason training and practices. They usually consist of line drills and basics/stamina exercising. If all the schools do it, it’s not worth mentioning.
What is worth highlighting is Air Force’s brotherhood. There’s an obvious one because those students are future military members. A second, less known brotherhood is the lacrosse team, who spend offseason time together off the field as well.
Most recently, Head Coach Eric Semeret introduced the freshmen class of lacrosse players, then proceeded to organize a team outing to hike America’s second largest peak: Mt. Elbert. At close to 14,500 feet in elevation, the team bonded together in separation from their busy lives in town, being physically challenged for a few days, and having only each other to depend on.
According to popular media sources like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram the trip was a huge success. The players truly came together and enjoyed their time and efforts.
A short few weeks later, over the first weekend of October, the Airmen participated in the Play for Parkinson’s Lacrosse Series in Alexandria, VA.
The team played Loyola and Towson, got some offseason competition under their belts, and got to see the east coast for a weekend. They return home from the event to focus on the remainders of their fall semester and further prepare for the spring ahead.
