In Lacrosse We Trust sources have confirmed the trade of John Ortolani to the Rochester Rattlers. Tim Thomas broke the story of the trade last night.
Ortolani was the back up faceoff man for the Boston Cannons for the past three years. He saw action in the last regular season game of 2012 and in the Cannons playoff game where he played very well.
He will be shipped to Rochester for a second round pick in the 2014 MLL draft. The Rattlers have two good faceoff men in Timmy Fallon and Chris Bunker, so at the very least this will be a great competition for starting faceoff man, or another move could be in the works.
Ortolani has been in MLL since 2009 and he has also played NLL. He is a mixed martial arts fighter outside of lacrosse. The Cannons starting faceoff man is Chris Eck, who just underwent knee surgery. To trade someone as good as Ortolani, they must feel certain Eck will be able to come back healthy.
