The Century 21 Lakers of the Major Series Lacrosse league has grabbed one of the world’s top lacrosse players from the west.
In a major acquisition transfer move, pending the expected Canadian Lacrosse Association approval, that he had been working on for awhile GM Paul Day got Curtis Dickson, presently playing with the National Lacrosse League’s Calgary Roughnecks, a player described by Indoor Lacrosse magazine as one of the top five players in the world.
“He is one of the most dangerous scorers in lacrosse, 5 on 5 and special teams. He will be fun to watch; a very dynamic player,” said GM Day. “Curtis is a special player that can turn nothing into a scoring chance every time he is on the floor.
“He has a great chemistry with Shawn Evans already and he wants to move to Peterborough to enjoy the summer playing in the community.”
Dickson, only 26, has been a star in both field and box lacrosse after growing up in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
“I’m really excited to be coming to Peterborough,” said Dickson who well knows the legend of the Lakers. His father Derek played in the west on two Minto Cup and a Mann Cup Canadian championship teams in the 1970s so he has heard the words Peterborough and lacrosse mixed many times since he started playing organized lacrosse at three..
“I want to get to Peterborough to help them win one.”
“All I hear are good things and I’m excited to get East to pursue the Mann Cup.”
He has never been to a Lakers game or to Peterborough but says
He is a graduate of the same university John Grant Jr. attended, Delaware University where he was All American for two years and is the all time leader in goal scorer for the team scoring 162 goals.
The NLL’s 2010 rookie of the year was drafted into that league by Calgary third overall and won the rookie of the year award in 2010 scoring 33 goals, 19 assists and last year had 44 goals for third in the league.
A quick, dynamic forward, the 6’2, 205 pound right shooter has earned the nickname Superman for his highlight reel goals flying across the opposition’s crease, but he is also a top play maker.
He grew up in Port Couitlam a box lacrosse hotbed out west, played senior for New Westminster Salmonbellies and Maple Ridge Burrards.
In 2014 he was a member of the World Lacrosse Champion Team Canada field team.
