Indoor lacrosse fans don’t have to wait long to watch professional action. Nope, the National Lacrosse League did not move their regular schedule up from January to October. Instead, Premier Series Lacrosse will kick off its opening series this week, starting on October 24th, bringing semi-professional lacrosse to enthusiastic lacrosse consumers.
The PSL, which will consist of three regular season weekend series, is the newest American indoor lacrosse league. All three regular season series will take place in Lehigh, Pennsylvania, with a playoff series in Hingham, Massachusetts. Additionally, the league has scheduled an All-Star series on January 23, 2016 to be held in Baltimore, MD in conjunction with the US Lacrosse National Convention. The league personnel is consists of mostly American based players and was founded by American indoor veterans with experience playing in previous American based leagues and beyond.
Four teams make up the league; the Admirals, Bombers, Rangers, and Snipers, all named after and representing aspects of the United States military. The PSL itself, unlike other lacrosse league attempts in the States, is a nonprofit with funds benefitting the Semper Fi & America’s Fund.
Each roster has it’s share of recognizable names from the indoor lacrosse circuit. The Admirals play host to George Castle (Kentucky Stickhorses/Philadelphia Wings/Johns Hopkins), Brendan Gorman (Chicago Outlaws/Irish National Team), Cory Malampy (Kentucky Stickhorses), and Patrick Crosby (Kentucky Stickhorses/Slovak National Team). The Bombers boast Adam Naureth (Charlotte Copperheads), Adam Miller (Baltimore Bombers), and Andrew Wasik (Philadelphia Wings/Philadelphia Barrage/Baltimore Bombers).
The Rangers are loaded, boasting former Colorado Mammoth forward Scott Joyner along with Julian Maliszweski (Baltimore Bombers/Reading Rockets), Jeff Joy (Baltimore Bombers/Australian National Team), and Josh Rachmann (Baltimore Bombers). The Snipers bring in Taylor Embury (Kentucky Stickhorses), James Synowiez (Rhode Island Kingfish), Ginny Capicchioni (Baltimore Bombers/US National Team/N.J. Storm), Patrick O’Shea (Rhode Island Kingfish), and Evan Swiker (Reading Rockets/Baltimore Bombers).
The talent is there to make the league competitive and entertaining for indoor lacrosse fans looking to get a between-season fix. Additionally, there will be two supplemental drafts for teams to bolster their rosters throughout the season with the cutoff date being November 3rd. Players interested in registering can click here. The first draft is October 23rd and the second will be November 6th.
The games begin on October 24th with the Rangers facing the Snipers at 10:30am. For those frustrated with the state of American indoor lacrosse, the PSL brings together all the positives the sport can build on while affording top-notch talent the opportunities to play.
