Drew Coholan scored a career-high five goals to help Hofstra win its second Colonial Athletic Association matchup 11-9 against the Drexel Dragons in the inaugural HEADstrong Hero Bowl at Vidas Field Saturday afternoon.
Hofstra improves to 5-3 overall, 2-0 in the CAA while Drexel drops to 4-4, 0-1 in the CAA with the loss.
Goal scorers for Hofstra include Coholan (5G), Senior Lance Yapor (2G, 2A), Senior Torin Varn (2G), Sophomore Sam Llinares (1G, 3A) and junior Mike Malave (1G). Red-shirt sophomore Korey Hendrickson had one assist for the Pride as well.
Drexel’s goal scorers include Ben McIntosh (2G, 2A), Cole Shafer (2G, 1A), Jared Bordreau (1G, 3A), Nick Trizano (1G, 1A), Ryan Belka (1G, 1A), Jules Raucci (1G) and Mitch de Snoo (1G). Face-off man Nick Saputo had one assist on the day.
Hofstra goalie Chris Selva gets credit for the Pride win with 13 saves while Drexel’s Will Gabrielsen had nine for the Dragons.
Drexel outshot the Pride 36-32 and won the ground ball battle 25-15. The Dragons won 16-24 of their face-offs while Hofstra won eight. Drexel was perfect on all three man-up opportunities while Hofstra capitalized 2-5.
The Pride will take on Towson University back home in Hempstead on Saturday, March 29 for another CAA matchup.
