The New England Black Wolves have plenty of pieces that they did not have in the middle of last season. Andrew Suitor and Garrett Billings will begin their first full seasons as Black Wolves, but another member of the team has a chance to make an impact.
Quinn Powless, a first round pick by New England in last year’s draft, was on fire before he was injured for the remainder of the 2015 season. In three games played he put up seven points, six of them assists.
“I’m pretty confident coming into the season hopefully come back better than I was” says Powless. “Just gotta keep working hard and stay with it keep my stick in my hands much as possible and doing the little things to come back ready to go.”
Before being injured in a loss to the Minnesota Swarm, Powless scored three points in each of his first two career NLL games. Before he went down, Powless was shaping up to be one of the prime scorers on the right side of the offense with Brett Bucktooth missing the start of the season.
“It was tough.” Powless says of the injur. “The hardest part was watching and just wanting to be playing and not being able to. I kept up with the Black Wolves while Iwas injured and was around the team for most of the games that I could make it to. I saw we have a good group of guys that are willing to work for each other and just have to come together as one and build some chemistry with each other and all have the same goal in mind.”
Several Black Wolves players broke out last season, including recently re-signed Pat Saunders and Kyle Buchanan. Powless joins those players along with Billings, who will also be working the right side of the offense.
Right now, Powless has been focused on taking what he can out of the pro game and being ready for the start of 2016, and he thinks he will be ready to go.
” I learned that its just a little faster paced game and you just gotta be ready to go at all times and come prepared every game” Powless said of his limited NLL action thus far.
“I’m on pace to be ready for 2016 things are coming along good and will be back ready to go for training camp.”
