Boca Raton, FL—Everything is on the line for the Florida Launch as they host the Boston Cannons for the home finale of their inaugural season. After four consecutive losses, Florida needs to bring it these last three weekends to remain in playoff contention. A loss this weekend would more than likely eliminate any chance of postseason play. Back to back games against the Cannons and a season finale in Ohio is what remains for the Launch.
The Cannons will be bringing a “win and we’re in” mentality this Saturday night, and next weekend when they host the Launch, but the playoff race is still very wide open.
Boston’s offense is very talented—ultimately in their last three losses they’ve given up an average of 15.6 goals per game, which isn’t astronomical, but you’ll lose more times than not giving up that many goals.
Florida has not finished this season the way they hoped they would after a solid start to the dynasty’s first year in south Florida, but even with that said making the playoffs would make all that go away. Kienan McArdle continues to shine for the Launch. McArdle, who has 33 points on the season (25 goals and eight assists in nine games), became the first player to score five goals against Denver this season, which is an unbelievable accomplishment bearing in mind the defensive core that the Outlaws possess. Also led by a soon-to-be Hall a Famer Casey Powell, who is leading the MLL in points with 48.
The Launch and Cannons are playing their first contest as the Launch are in their inaugural season. Florida is looking to shake things up in the playoff race with a pair of wins against Cannons they will be putting themselves in a great position to clinch a berth.
Faceoff is set for July 26 2014, 7:00 pm at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida. Stream the game live on ESPN3 from your WatchESPN app.
