The Rochester Knighthawks are coming off of two championships in a row, thus they head into the 2014 season with a target on their back. However, transition Brad Self says their expectation is to return the champs. The Knighthawks have not seen much change this off season, the only notable moves being the signings of Tom Johnson and Mac Allen. However, the ‘Hawks have locked up most of their team long term, including Self on a four year deal. “I think the commitment by everyone in the organization as seen by the long term deals shows our strength in our team.” said Self. “We’ve improved just by sticking together and having another year with one another.”
The NLL CBA has been cited as a reason for the long term deals throughout the league recently, and players certainly are beginning to look at things differently. “I’m a little unsure about the cut in rosters sizes especially with the increase in games and less teams making the playoffs.” explained Self. : There’s bound to be some lineup juggling along the way. It’s unfortunate that the league will be losing 27 good quality lacrosse players that were in the league last year.”
Last season Self scored 22 points, nine of them goals, and picked up 96 loose balls, worthy of his new Knighthawks extension. He is prepared for a season where the expectations do not wane.
“Our expectations are to win the championship but I’m sure that’s the same as every other team so we better be ready.”
