The 2013 All-American Women’s Lacrosse team consisted of seven New England area players. Among those are Mikaela Rix (Midfielder, Boston College), Covie Stanwick (Attack, Boston College), and Lauren Kahn (Midfielder, UConn).
Rix and Stanwick are both entering their junior year at BC, having finished off last year’s season starting all 20 of their games. Stanwick notched a single-season goals scored record with 65 shots that made it to the back of the net, while Rix was no slouch having scored 47 goals by seasons end. Both of these girls still have two full years of college lacrosse left to go, which gives them both time to develop even more skill. This means nothing but bad news for opposing teams, who may have a tough time stopping this double scoring threat.
Lauren Kahn was also an extremely important piece for the UConn Huskies. Last year, she led her team with 42 goals, three of which were game winners, and 23 assists. Entering her last year at UConn, Kahn doesn’t have much left to prove. She has already been named a Second Team All-American by the Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, First Team All-American selection, All-Northeast Region First Team selection, and was chosen unanimously to be a part of the Big East All-Tournament Team in 2013. While there may be little room left for honors, be sure to expect an award winning season from Kahn.
