Well it’s hard to believe that the end of the regular season is just around the corner for us, but here we are 7 games in sitting at 2-5 with one game remaining against Barrie this Sunday at the Molson Center. As a team we are looking to finish the season on a winning note heading into playoffs as we have lost our last 3 games, losing to Barrie in OT before dropping back to back games to a good Niagara team. Our team has only scored 14 goals the last 2 games, failing to hit double digits for the first time all season the last two games as we ran into a hot goalie in Dave Diruscio and weren’t getting the looks that we had been getting and capitalizing on early on in the season.
It’s tricky for everyone to gel together and to build chemistry with each other when we are still somewhat getting used to playing together as the season and practice time we have as a team is short, but we have one game left before playoffs to refocus and get an important win so we can build on it going into the playoffs. We all know the task at hand and what we have to go back to doing in order to be successful. Our final game against Barrie will determine who gets the 3rd and 4th spots overall in the standings. The winner will play Niagara and the loser will go to play Ohsweken next weekend in the playoffs, where games will be won by whichever team wants it more.
In a single elimination format anything is possible and our team has many players who have lots of big game experience that will step up and lead by example. There is no panic in our team despite the recent slide. We have a practice on Thursday where we will be making our final preparations for the Barrie game to close our regular season out on a positive note before playoff lacrosse starts.
Till next week
