Speck Blog: Slash Are 7-1 in CanAm Play

This past weekend saw us up in action for a home game against the Pinewoods Smoke, a team who we recently beat in OT on the road by a final of 13-12 two weeks ago in a tightly contested game. We were missing many regulars so the score was probably a bit closer than it should have been for that one, but it set a good tone for the rematch a few days ago at the ILA. Although we were still missing some key players for this game, our offense was on full display as we easily defeated a shorthanded Pinewoods team 24-4. We displayed our teams’ new jerseys and gloves for this game which still are the best in the league as far as I’m concerned.  After the game many of us celebrated a great day in the parking lot downing drinks until the start of the NLL Champions Cup final between Rochester and Calgary (which Rochester won, leading to more celebratory drinks).

Our record now sits at 7-1 on the season, and we are tied for first with Newtown and Onondaga. Our next 2 games are both at home against Buffalo and Allegany, two teams that we beat earlier in the year. Each and every practice and game we seem to progress and keep moving forwards, which is big for us at this point in the season where momentum will go a long way to keeping the wins coming, as well as keeping us in the race for first overall spot and homefloor advantage for playoffs. Homefloor advantage in the playoffs means more to us than any other team because we are the only Canadian team in the league. Teams will all have to cross the border to come play us at home come playoff time if we can lock up that first overall spot, giving us a big advantage not having to get on a crowded bus on a hot summer day for a long drive for a game.

Till next week
