The Minnesota Swarm and Edmonton Rush announced that they have swapped Minnesota’s 2014 fourth round draft pick for Rush left-handed forward Dane Stevens. According to the Swarm website the trade is still pending league approval.
Stevens has yet to play a game for the Rush due to a combination of family and work commitments and even though Head Coach Derek Keenan was excited to see him as part of his offence this season, the emergence of rookie lefty Riley Loewen made Stevens expendable.
While speaking to Jason Gregor on TSN 1260 in Edmonton this afternoon, Edmonton Offensive Coach Jeff McComb spoke briefly about the transaction.
“We are going so well right now we’re not sure we want to disrupt that flow,” McComb said. “Dane is a good guy and we just didn’t see necessarily with how we’ve been playing and the fact that we’ve been mostly playing three lefts out the front door on offence where he actually fit in. And to give him an opportunity to go elsewhere too as well.”
Stevens had a strong summer with the Burnaby Lakers of the Western Lacrosse Association, leading the team in scoring. He put up 81 points in 18 games, good for fourth overall in the WLA.
