The Kentucky Stickhorses are ready for the 2013 season as they have released their roster for their second campaign. Below are the players who made the team, but first some notes.
Players you will not see on the roster are Joel Zalesky, Max Schmidt and Cody Johnson. Zalesky is currently holding out.
Anthony Kelly: Kelly was a member of the ‘Horses last year and returns as one of the most solid faceoff men in all of lacrosse. He brings a presence on the defensive end along with some transition ability.
Eric O’Brien: O’Brien is also a veteran returner who will see his fair share of faceoffs and time on the defensive end.
David Lisi: Lisi is a defender who will see plenty of action after playing for Kentucky in the 2012 season.
Devin Clifford: Louisville product who saw game action last season and played this fall in the Midwest Lacrosse Association with the Southern Ohio Box Lacrosse club.
Josh Kacprzak: Lacprzak spent his summer with the Rochester Greywolves of the CanAm League and had a shot to crack the Rochester Knighthawks roster. This new comer brings some more solid defense to the Kentucky back end.
Jake Davis: Davis played in the Professional Lacrosse League with the Reading Rockets this past fall.
Greg Bice: Bice was a member of Kentucky last season and is one of their veteran leaders. He had a great summer season in MLL with the Ohio Machine. This transition player brings plenty of scoring ability.
Ryan Maciaszek: Transition player who saw plenty of action in the off season with the Reading Rockets and Newton Golden Eagles and was at Philadelphia Wings camp.
Dave McCarthy: McCarthy was also at Wings camp and this defender comes back after a solid campaign in 2012.
Mike Unterstein: Long Island Lizard in MLL and returner from last season. Veteran defender who plays a physical game.
George Castle: Castle is a former Wings defender that will bring a physical defensive element to the club. He also played in Reading this fall.
Travis Bland: Another Reading stand out who has also seen time in the Canadian Lacrosse League, he will bring some more offensive pop. They will need to rely on him more with no Zalesky.
Stefan Schroeder: Schroeder is someone who has not played box before and is a goalie in MLL with Ohio. He was brought into Kentucky as a defender.
Ed Prevost: Lefty shooter who the Stickhorses say will have a big role for the 2013 season.
Brandon Dube: A stand out with the Vermont Voyageurs, Dube is one of the leaders of the Kentucky offense and will be heavily relied on this season.
Joel Derechinsky: Right handed shooting veteran on the offensive end who is returning after last season.
Art Kell: Louisville native who had a strong camp and pre season game with the Stickhorses two weeks ago.
Mike McClellan: A former NLL stud with New York, Edmonton and Colorado, the Stickhorses have to be thrilled to have McClellan on their offensive unit.
Patrick Crosby: Crosby had a fantastic 2012 season in between the pipes and played this summer with the Greywolves. Expect another big year from him with a solid and improved defense around him.
Spencer Lyons: Lyons looked good in the pre season, but it remains to be seen how much he plays when they already have a proven commodity in Crosby.
Tim McCormick: McCormick is a surprise pick making the roster as the third goalie. He played field lacrosse goaltender at UMass.
