NLL Season Preview: Colorado Mammoth

A strong returning core and a high powered offense will lead the Colorado Mammoth when they return to the Pepsi Center turf.

Veterans Gavin Prout and John Grant Jr. highlight a potent Colorado offense that led the NLL in scoring last season. The reigning league MVP, Junior returns after a monumental 2012 season in which he set a new an NLL single season scoring record with 116 points, as well as reach both the 1000 career points and 500 career goals plateau. Captain Gavin Prout has spent a majority of his twelve year NLL career with the Colorado, recording over 600 of his 881 career points in a Mammoth jersey.

Leading Colorado’s impressive group of young offensive talent are Adam Jones and Jordan McBride. Jones finished third on the Mammoth offensively in 2012, behind only Grant and Prout, en route to earning NLL Rookie of the Year honours. McBride returns for his second NLL season after a 20 point rookie campaign. The Stony Brook University grad had an impressive pre-season, leading the Mammoth in exhibition scoring with 7 goals in two games.

Other weapons of the Mammoth offense include Sean Pollock, Jamie Lincoln and Derek Hopcroft, who accounted for a combined total of 133 points last season. Colton Clark, a first round pick in the 2012 entry draft, is the lone rookie on offense for Colorado.

Chris Levis returns between the pipes for Colorado after an outstanding 2012 season. Levis led all NLL goalies in wins (10) and saves (603), earning a starting spot on the western division All-Star team. Off-season acquisition Matt Roik will assist Levis in the Mammoth goaltending department. Despite being released by the Toronto Rock after a 4-4 record last season, Roik’s resume features over a decade of NLL experience including a Champion’s Cup title.

Colorado will host the Washington Stealth Saturday, January 12 to open their 2013 season.
