1. McGill (9-0) Last Week: 1
The McGill Redmen had the week off which will be key as they prep for their East Division rivals Bishop’s Gaiters. The last time the two met the Redmen picked up a 12-10 victory despite a late fourth quarter charge by the Gaiters. The Redmen are led by Lehigh grad Kevin Donnavan who has found the back of the net 24 times, adding eight assists for 32 points. His 24 goals is good enough for fifth among all CUFLA runners. Junior Connor Goodwin is a close second on the Redmen with 15 goals, a team best 13 assists and 28 points. Juniors Alex Rohrbach and Leland De Langley sit tied for third with 21. Netminding has not been an issue as three different goaltenders have recorded wins for the Redmen. Leading the way is junior goaltender Riley McGillis who is currently posting a 6-0 record with a 6.91 goals against average, fourth among all starters in the league. Freshmen William Waesche has shined in his rookie campaign with a 2-0 record and a 3.60 goals against average in 200 minutes of play. McGill have already clinched a first place finish in the East Division, but there is no doubt the Redmen will want to beat their Eastern Division combatants and finish with their programs first undefeated regular season.
2. Brock (10-1) Last Week: 2
The Brock Badgers continued their dominance as they picked up two convincing victories to solidify first place in the East Division. On Saturday afternoon the Badgers knocked off the Toronto Varsity Blues to a score of 20-3. Leading the Badgers offensively was senior attackman Kyle Davis who picked up six goals while adding one assist. Junior attackman Greg Davidson also filled the net with five goals and chipped in an assist. Freshman Brandon Slade continued his stellar rookie season with a five point performance (2G,3A). Fifth year Senior netminder Ian Duffy played all 80 minutes en route to picking up his sixth win of the year. The Badgers hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks in a Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday matchup where the Badgers came out victorious to a score of 20-3. Once again, Davis lead the way but this time posting an impressive 10 points (5G,7A). Davidson and Slade also were outstanding yet again, totaling eight points each. Duffy finished with 25 saves, improving his record to 7-1. The Badgers will close out their regular season against the Guelph Gryphons this Saturday afternoon. A win will clinch first place in the West division and a place in the Baggataway Cup weekend in Montreal,QC from November 1-3,2013.
3. Western (8-2) Last Week: 4
The Mustangs kept their first place hopes alive after a huge 14-6 victory over divisional rival Guelph Gryphons. The hot start one for the Mustangs helped solidified their win as they had a 8-1 stranglehold on the Gryphons at the half. The Gryphs potted five goals in the second half, but the Mustangs matched it with six goals brining the final score to 14-6 in favour of Western. The McCrory brothers lead the way for the Mustangs, combining for six goals, two assists and eight points between the two. Chestnut Hill College grad Shane Morlock chipped in with a goal and two assists in the victory. Netminder Zach Grace shut the door 13 times on 19 attempts while picking up his seventh win of the season and is tied for first with Duffy for most wins among CUFLA netminders. The Mustangs close out their regular season this weekend with a pair of games against Toronto and Laurier. If the Mustangs win both and Brock fall to Guelph, the Mustangs will tie the Badgers for first place in the West. If the Mustangs win both games this weekend and Brock beat Guelph, the Mustangs will lock up second place in the West.
4. Guelph (7-2) Last Week: 3
The Guelph Gryphons dropped to third place in the West after a crushing 14-6 loss to divisional rival Western. Senior midfielder Jordan Critch chipped in with three goals and an assist while former Jacksonville Dolphin Ryan Serville netted a pair of goals. Senior midfielder Curtis Knight added a goal and an assist in the Gryphons loss. If the Gryphons win out their remaining games they have a chance to move into second place in the West. With two victories, Guelph will finish with 18 points. If the Mustangs lose both games, the Gryphons will gain sole possession of second place.
5. Bishop’s (6-3) Last Week: 5
The Bishop’s Gaiters had last weekend off and now have three games remaining in their season. The Gaiters will travel to Montreal,QC to take on divisional rival McGill in a rematch from earlier this season. Bishop’s will also host a pair of games against Concordia and Trent in hopes of clinching second place in the East. Queen’s currently sits in second with 12 points but have played nine games and have one game remaining against Trent, giving the Gaiters’ the upper hand. Junior attackman Alex Henderson is just 11 points shy of his career best season total of 46 with three games remaining. The Enniskillen,ON native is the heart and soul of the offense as he leads the team in goals(17), assists(20) and points (37). Sophomore James Malloy has strung together a solid season with 15 goals, six helpers and 17 points in seven games.
