Wenster Green Newest Breakout Player for Stealth

Free agent Wenster Green was signed by the Vancouver Stealth on October 3, adding depth to their transition unit.

Green was drafted by the Buffalo Bandits in 2012 but failed to make the team. The 21-year-old transition spent last year on the practice roster for the Rochester Knighthawks and, during the offseason, played for the Iroquois Ironmen in CLax and was a member of the Minto Cup winning Six Nations Arrows over the summer.

Playing for the Arrows, Green played alongside Johnny Powless, who also came over to Vancouver from Rochester in recent months. Their familiarity with each other should help them both work better in the Stealth system.

Primarily known as a defense-first player, Green also has some offensive chops—he collected three points in six games during the Minto Cup and also had six points in six games while playing with the Ironmen en route to winning the CLax championship.

“I had a chance to see Wenster play at the Minto Cup in Langley,” said Stealth Head Coach Dan Perreault in the announcement of Green’s signing. “He had a very good tournament. He’s a big, strong defensive player with a good skill set and appears to understand his role very well.”

As young as he is, Green still has plenty of time to develop his defensive skills and grow into a significant contributor for the Stealth. Moreover, with the news that team captain Kyle Sorensen is out for the season with a knee injury and that Matt Beers might be gone due to work commitments, the defense might need some extra help, giving Green the golden opportunity to make the most of his signing. And with the experience he has already picked up with the Bandits and Knighthawks, he should be ready to step up and contribute.
