Colorado is known to be a left-handed player-heavy roster. John Grant Jr. and Adam Jones are two of the strongest lefties the NLL has to offer. With a one-year contract agreed upon, Drew Westervelt balances out the offensive roster.
Drew brings balance to the Mammoth in another way from my perspective. Take a look back to the rocky road that was Colorado’s 2014 season. The first half of the season was wasted away with poor and unorganized coaching and rumors of locker room drama.
Halfway through that season, the front office decided enough was enough, and gave their coaching staff a complete makeover.
The Mammoth were off to the winning path again, just a tad too short of notice. With all that going on, take a peak at Westervelt’s career statistics.
Westervelt is extremely consistent. No matter the team or environment, drama or reality, Drew’s season-long stats are consistently within 10 points of each other year-to-year. It’s not just season points either. Goals, shots, loose balls, etc. All of his statistics are within reasonable ratios year to year. 2014 was his second best season with 63 points after he had a 72 point campaign in 2010.
This makes Westervelt the rock of the team, the anchor, the balance. Along with Grant Jr. and Jones, the three of these heavy hitters are bound to create an impact this 2015 NLL season
