This past weekend the Philadelphia Wings had their free agent/rookie camp to see who makes it to the 40 man camp roster with the veterans. Unfortunately, there was no way to identify a lot of players there, but their were a few that I knew from previous interviews/meetings.
A surprise at the camp was a former Wing looking to get back into the game after a concussion. Local product and Ridley High standout Bill McGlone put a solid performance this past weekend. McGlone is in a lot better shape now then he was when he last played. McGlone said he tried losing weight, but it turned to muscle instead, so that’s a good thing.
Others that stood out this past weekend, James Delaney,Garrett Thul, Eric Holt, Kyle Buchanan, and Patrick Crosby.
The coaches had the free agents/draft picks play a four on four game. Manos and Crosby were the two goaltenders, and while they both struggled with short side shots, Crosby seemed to edge out Manos.
Holt was a monster on defense finishing every check and making the forwards earn every step on the floor.
Delaney, Thul, & Buchanan did very well on the offensive side of the ball. No score was kept.
Rob Pannell was a no show this past weekend.
40 man roster camp with veterans start this Friday night. They continue with two sessions on Saturday and one on Sunday.
