The Ales Hrebsky memorial tournament in the Czech Republic takes place this year on April 23. To get you ready, we are previewing each group.
Group A
Group A has foreign feel with three fascinating teams; the Turku Titans of Finland, Goldstar Tel Aviv from Israel, and Bundeswer Lacrosse from Germany.
Turku Titans
The Finnish team is entering their seventh year of the tournament. They were in the top eight last year for the first time ever and are looking to improve and at least be the top team in their group. Markus Mattila and Jarno Aaltonen won championships in the European Lacrosse League in 2014 with the German team Deutschland Adler.
Goldstar Tel Aviv
Israeli lacrosse has been trendy in the past year after they were the surprise team of the 2014 field lacrosse FIL in Denver. Their indoor team for the FIL in September is looking solid, and we might catch a glimpse of it in this tournament. Chris Leone is in net and players like Adam Culbertson on the field. Last year the team finished in tenth place overall and their leading point getter was Jacob Silberlicht with six goals who is no longer on the team. The team is led by head coach Brad MacArthur, the head coach of the Canadian Lacrosse League’s Barrie Blizzard.
Bundeswer Lacrosse
This is the third time we will see Bundeswer in the Ales Hrebseky, and they are the official team of the German army. Phillip Broz is their top player, but they have an interesting roster since Deutschland Adler dropped out and now two different German teams are competing. They are a tough team, but the lowest ranked in this group.
