It wasn’t pretty, but the Philadelphia Wings finished on top. As for the Bandits, they leave feeling like they should of had this game in the bag. After taking a six goal lead, the Bandits slowly watched their momentum slip away. Jordan Hall scored with three seconds left in the fourth to tie it up at 10, and Drew Westervelt scored in overtime to give Philadelphia the 11 to 10 victory.
The game puts the Wings in second place with a 5-3 record, jumping the Bandits who are now 5-4. Buffalo split their weekday with the victory over Toronto and the loss last night.
One of the stand out moments of the game was Steve Priolo’s huge hit on Wings captain Brodie Merrill. It was a move that seemed to really turn the momentum towards the Bandits. Buffalo did get many favorable calls in the first as well, as Philly ran into serious penalty problems. The Bandits made them pay, scoring five of their goals on the powerplay.
After the game the Bandits were obviously not happy with the performance while Philadelphia was happy with their ability to face adversity. Here are all the postgame interviews.
Coach Mouradian probably gives the most interesting interview I’ve done yet. Not very often does a coach’s phone go off during one of these!
Coach Kilgour was upset with the outcome, but felt that the Bandits did enough to win the game tonight.
Miller played a stellar game in net, especially in the second half. He made several spectacular saves to keep the Wings in the game.
Drew Westervelt scored the game winner for the Wings in overtime, a bouncer from the point that made it through Anthony Cosmo’s legs.
Tavares was in his second game back since returning from injury. He had three assists on the night.
Wiles was named the game MVP for his three goal and one assist effort.
