Big East Championship to be Hosted By Villanova

The 2013 BIG EAST Lacrosse Championship sites have been announced by the league. The BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship, in its second year, will return to the site of the inaugural tournament, Villanova University. The BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be held at the Multi-Sport Field on the campus of Georgetown University. Both championships will take place May 2 and 4.

The men’s tournament was originially slated for Syracuse. The change in site comes after the Orange announced they are leaving the Big East for the ACC and negotiated a cash settlement to leave the conference at the end of 2013.

Both the men’s and women’s championships are a four-team single-elimination tournament held over three days. The top four teams according to Conference game winning percentage in the regular season standings are selected and seeded.

The semifinals for both events will be held on May 2, while the championship games are set for May 4. Game times will be determined at a later date. The women’s tournament champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the 26-team NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The men’s tournament champion will advance with an automatic berth to the 16-team NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held May 25-27 in Philadelphia, Pa.
