Blue Jays Battle Tar Heels

On Saturday February 21 at 2pm the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays will be in North Carolina taking on the Tarheels. This will be the 44th meeting between these two teams. The jays have a slight advantage with a 24-19 record against the heels. With both teams having a very high powered offense this has the potential to be a scoring marathon. Both goalies and defenses will be tested early and often.

Johns Hopkins is coming off a 13-10 victory in a crazy snow filled game against Villanova last Saturday. Currently JHU is ranked 18th in the nation with 11.33 goals per game. With the new face off rules they have used 3 different face off guys at the X, which has helped them to win 42-65 so far this season. Coach Pietramala is not afraid to use his young guns either. The freshman have combined for 17 points in 3 games. Last years group had 28 in 16 games.

With 11 starters returning from last season the experience is everywhere. North Carolina has started the season at 3-0 and 7th year head coach Joe Breschi will no doubt like to keep that momentum going. This offense that is led by its senior attack and has scored 15 or more goals in each of its 3 games this season. With Junior goalie Kieran Burke coming off an injury it will most likely be redshirt freshman Brian Balkam in goal. No matter who gets the start they will definitely be tested against JHU.

On a side note if you are attending this game it has been moved to Navy field on the UNC campus. Admission is free and it is standing room only.
