Mixed in with all of the action over the last week were some outstanding individual performances. Those individuals will be recognized in this space each week as the D3 Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week—Corey Elmer, Cabrini
The preseason player of the year in many people’s eyes, Elmer has helped kick off Cabrini’s season in the best of ways. With two big games on the schedule this past week, the Cavs’ best player took his game to the next level by totaling 13 points in wins over top-10 opponents Dickinson and Lynchburg. His five-goal, three-assist effort against Dickinson spearheaded Cabrini’s 19-9 win over the Red Devils and his two-goal, two-assist day on the weekend against Lynchburg helped improve the Cavs to 3-0 for the first time since 2009.
Honorable Mentions: Tyler McKelvie, Keene State; Martin Manilla, Gettysburg; Nick Hermes, Hanover
Defensive Player of the Week – Tim Culloty, Stevens
Typically when you recognize a defensive player from an losing team it’s the goalkeeper, but that is not the case with Culloty. The Ducks’ defenseman has been a vacuum for groundballs this year and in Saturday’s loss to Springfield College he scooped up six while also causing three turnovers. With the amount of firepower Springfield has up front, those numbers stand above the rest.
