Cannons Eliminated From Playoffs

The Boston Cannons were eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to the Ohio Machine on Saturday afternoon.

It started off very poorly for the Boston Cannons on Saturday afternoon, with the Machine taking a 7-1 advantage. Boston trailed 4-0 early before they brought it back within two, but Ohio then scored three straight including two goals off the faceoff for Eric O’Brien.

Scott Rodgers made seven saves in the first quarter alone. Kiel Matisz scored three goals in the first half alone and the Machine ended up with a 9-2 lead with 8:35 left in the half.

At the end of two, Burke had just ___ saves. On the other end, Rodgers was making saves on every possession that the Cannons didn’t turn the ball over. It took until the Cannons trailed 10-2 before they scored again, with a goal from rookie Will Manny off of a pass from Cameron Flint.

At halftime it was a 10-4 lead for Ohio, with Kevin Buchanan scoring that fourth goal for the Cannons late, on another setup from Flint. Flint was the only Cannon in the first half to pick up multiple points.

The first blood drawn in the second half came from a Poskay goal to make it a 10-5 deficit for the Cannons. While the Cannons came out strong to start the second half, the Machine soon put that to rest to two straight goals.

As the third quarter came winding to an end, Kevin Buchanan put a two pointer in and not long after Mike Stone found the back of the net. The Machine lead 12-9 going into the fourth.

After just a few minutes of fourth quarter action the Machine had a 15-9 lead. The game would finish 16-12 Ohio for their second win of the season, and the Cannons eighth and eliminating loss.
