Cannons Get in Playoffs as Rabil Ties Scoring Record

It was a must win game for the Boston Cannons, and they won.

The Cannons defeated the Ohio Machine last night, 18-16, to get into the MLL Playoffs as the number three seed. They will play the Chesapeake Bayhawks on August 25th.

The Cannons saw multi goal performances from Paul Rabil, Matt Poskay, Ari Sussman, Ryan Boyle, Mike Stone, Kevin Buchanan (who had a natural hat trick) and Pat Heim.

Rabil scored three points in the game to tie the all time record for single season points at 71. He scored a goal in the first quarter and a two point goal in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Boyle was player of the game, but it very easily could have been John Ortolani, who filled in for injured faceoff man Chris Eck and won 13 draws out of 21.

Buchanan scored three goals in the fourth quarter, all vital go ahead or game tying goals. Boyle set up the last three goals the Cannons scored.

They will face the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the first round of the playoffs for the third time in three years. Two years ago they were blown out by the underdog Bayhawks, and last season they beat them on a last second goal from Max Quinzani.
