The Boston Cannons may have lost some offense, but they gained some defense in the trade that shipped Paul Rabil to New York. First, they added Brian Karalunass, whom they immediately sent to the Ohio Machine for another defensemanm, Chad Wiedmaier.
“I loved playing with the Machine the past two years.” Wiedmaier told us. “That was about as tight a group as I have ever been a part of, and I will miss seeing those guys every weekend. I am happy about the trade though, because it would have been pretty much impossible to make it to practices on Friday nights in Ohio with my new job. I am very grateful that I can continue to play the best sport in the world, and am excited for the next chapter of my career playing in Boston.
“Playing in Ohio was an amazing experience. The fans were very loyal, and the organization took great care of all of the players. I only have great things to say about that organization”
Ohio made the MLL semi finals this past season in their first playoff appearance in franchise history. They fell to the Rochester Rattlers in their opportunity to go to the finals, but overall they feel they can build on their roster for the future.
It will be without Wiedmaier, who will have an opportunity in Boston to bolster a defense that lost Kyle Sweeney.
Wiedmaier says the trade did not come as a big surprise, and he is grateful for the opportunity to continue his career despite work conflicts. The former Hamilton National, and now Ohio Machine, will be able to start fresh with a new-look Cannons roster and a new stadium.
