The Canadian Lacrosse League announced its Players of The Week earlier today. First, they named Wayne Van Evert of the Ohsweken Demons the offensive player of week one. He scored six goals along with two assists in the victory over their rival Iroquois Ironmen.
Mack O’Brien of the Toronto Shooting Stars won transition player of the week after scoring three goals in the Toronto loss to the Durham Turf Dogs. He scored all three of his goals on the transition.
Durham goaltender John Cheesborough won defensive player of the week for holding the Shooting Stars to just ten goals in the opening victory for the Turf Dogs. He made 39 saves in the opening game for Durham.
The only team to not take home any awards was the Iroquois Ironmen who fell to the Demons on Saturday afternoon. Week two of the CLax season opens up this upcoming Saturday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
