CLax Players to Watch: Week Eight

There are several players to watch in week eight as all seven CLax teams will be in action but here are three players to really keep your eyes on.

On Friday night you’ll want to keep a close watch on Delby Powless. The Ohsweken Demons veteran is averaging over 5 points per game and it doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down anytime soon. At 5’7 and 175 pounds he is hardly the biggest guy in the league but certainly plays like he is. Powless has three hat tricks this year already including one last week versus the Toronto Shooting Stars. Powless has been a superstar his entire career and is one of the most exciting lacrosse players to watch. Look for him to light it up on Friday when the Demons face the winless Iroquois Ironmen at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena; the same building that houses Powless’ sporting goods store, ILA Sports.

Connor Danko of the Niagara Lock Monsters is Saturday’s choice of players to watch in the CLax. The league’s number one netminder has a goals against average of 8.39 and has been Niagara’s MVP so far this season. He held the Barrie Blizzard to just 5 goals last weekend, making 48 saves in the process. He is an exciting goaltender to watch and makes the big saves when his team needs him. Danko and the Lock Monsters are in Oshawa on Saturday to take on the Durham TurfDogs. You can listen to that game live at 2pm on the Lacrosse Radio Network.

The Toronto Shooting Stars are loaded with talent but the player to watch on Sunday is Aaron Grayson. Grayson has played for several teams in his career and is the perfect example of a player who never gives up. He’s had stints in the MSL (Peterborough Lakers) and in the OLA Senior B league (James Gang Champs) but it’s in the CLax that he’s been most productive.  He has 20 points in just four games played and is not afraid to drop the mitts either; he had a beauty tilt with Durham’s Shane Scott in week three. His Shooting Stars host the struggling Ironmen on Sunday afternoon at Mattamy Athletic Centre, former home of the historic Maple Leaf Gardens.
