CLax Playoffs: Who’s In, Who’s Out

After an unbelievable regular season in the Canadian Lacrosse League, it’s time to buckle up for a wild playoff ride. The quarter finals are set to begin this Friday when the fifth seeded Durham TurfDogs travel to Brampton to face the fourth place Inferno. This opening round matchup will be broadcast live on The Lacrosse Radio Network with coverage starting at 8pm.

This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams with Brampton taking the season series two games to one. The visiting team has won all three games thus far but the Inferno will be looking to end that pattern this weekend when they host the TurfDogs. Both teams are coming off home loses to the Iroquois Ironmen in games that could have gone either way. Brampton’s loss was a 14-13 overtime thriller while the TurfDogs were defeated 13-9 in a tight game that was closed out with four unanswered goals by the Ironmen.

Those two victories earned Iroquois the sixth and final playoff spot which means they’ll take on the third ranked Ohsweken Demons in the other quarter final match on Sunday at 1pm. Although the Ironmen are the six seed, they are the hottest team going into the playoffs and are favoured by many to take home the Creator’s Cup. Going into the final weekend of the regular season they had only won two games and their playoffs hopes looks slim. Then they surprised everyone with two solid victories in as many days to claim their spot in the playoffs.  Ohsweken on the other hand has been near the top of the standings all year and clinched their spot several weeks ago. Ohsweken took the season series two games to one but it was a close battle with just a one goal differential in favour of the Demons.

The Niagara Lock Monsters and the Toronto Shooting Stars are waiting in the semi-finals and will meet the winners of these quarter final matches on April 20th at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA).  Since the Lock Monsters finished first they will meet the lowest seeded team at 1pm while the second place Shooting Stars will get the left overs at 4pm. The Creator’s Cup final is also at ILA and will take place the very next day, April 21st, at 1pm.

As mentioned, Friday’s 8pm game between the Durham TurfDogs and Brampton Inferno will be broadcast live on The Lacrosse Radio Network while the 4pm semi-final game and the Creator’s Cup Final can also be heard live on the network. You can find the radio link to the games at the top of the In Lacrosse We Trust homepage.
