The Canadian Lacrosse League is getting set for their first ever all star game at the end of this 2014 season. The game will take place on April 12 at the Wilmot Recreation Complex. The format will see the Creator’s Cup Champions (champion of the league) face a collection of the league’s best players as their all stars.
The selection of players will be as follows;
- Three (3) players selected per team (2-5) by their respective management team
- Four (4) wild card players and two (2) goaltenders selected by the second place (Creator’s Cup Finalist) management team (must select at least one player per four remaining teams)
- Total of 16 players and two goaltenders
If this is confusing to you, don’t worry, it seems confusing for everybody. To translate, it appears that each team will select three players from their team. Along with that, the team that made the championship and lost will select four players and two goalies, and those players must be one from each team. Somehow they expect 16 players out of that.
We caught up with Southwest Cyclops general manager Wayne Paddick about the event, and he said:
“CLAX has a great product and showcasing it’s talent in an area that is in the centre of a great lacrosse community such as Waterloo/Wellington is an opportunity to grow the game outside of the centres already involved in CLAX. With lacrosse communities like KW, Guelph, Fergus, Cambridge, Arthur and London all within 45 minutes of Wilmot, this seemed like a good fit. The Waterloo region has also been studied as a possible location for a future CLAX franchise and an opportunity like this affords the region to demonstrate it’s worthiness of having their own team.
“The game will be the Creator’s Cup Champs vs league all stars from the remaining teams. The day will start with two minor games at 11 and 12 then the pros at 2 pm. After the game there will be autographs in the lobby from both teams and photo ops with all of the mascots. Then we will cap the day with two more minor games on the turf at 5 and 6.”
