CLax Preview: Cyclops at Demons

The SouthWest Cyclops (0-1) will look to avenge a season opening loss to the Oshweken Demons (1-0) when they hit the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA) turf tonight. The game will serve as the Cyclops inaugural home opener in the franchise’s temporary accommodations at the ILA, a facility which also serves as home to the Demons.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) squads, with Oshweken previously emerging victorious in a high scoring 21-19 affair.

Chris Attwood returns to the Demons after a year spent with the now defunct Iroquois Ironmen. The Rochester Knighthawk prospect was crowned 2012 CLax Most Outstanding Player and league scoring champion during his previous stint with Oshweken and has reassumed his position as the leader on the offensive, finishing with eight points (4 G, 4 A) in the win over the Cyclops.

Wayne VanEvery, who led the Demons in scoring during the 2013 season, joins Attwood on the potent Oshweken offense. VanEvery found the back of the cage seven times while adding one assist versus the Cyclops and enters tonight’s rematch tied with Andrew Potter of Niagara for the league lead in goals.

For SouthWest, CLax veteran Ryan Campbell has emerged as an evident leader on a youthful Cyclops squad. The leading scorer of the 2013 Brampton Inferno picked up six points (2 G, 4 A) in SouthWest’s inaugural CLax appearance. Edmonton Rush prospect Mike Burke (1 G, 5 A) and former Durham Turfdog Shane Scott (1 G, 3 A) were also impressive for the Cyclops in a losing effort.

Faceoff for tonight’s match-up is set for 8 pm.
