Cross Checks: Replacing Seniors for NCAA Teams

As fall ball has already begun, a number of D1 teams have had to replace some of the top players in the nation. A number of these players will be joining the National Lacrosse League once the season begins after they were drafted in the 2013 MLL Draft that took Monday, September 16. It will be interesting with the lacrosse season coming up soon to see how these teams will react to losing their top players.

Logan Schuss – Ohio State University

The number one pick in the NLL Draft, All-American Logan Schuss, will no doubt be a crucial loss for the Buckeyes going into the next season. The team co-captain and former Rookie of the Year scored a total of 237 points in his four year career with Ohio State and started every game in that time.

Both he and Dominique Alexander were drafted to the Minnesota Swarm in the NLL Draft, making it 11 former Buckeyes who were selected in the draft. Of those 11, five were drafted in the first round. Logan Schuss now becomes the first number one overall draft pick in Minnesota Swarm history, so the team definitely has high hopes for this great leader.

Cornell University Has A Number Of Top Picks

Cornell University would end up with two players going in the first round of the draft. The second overall pick in the draft, All-American Jason Noble would end up being taken by the Minnesota Swarm and the eighth pick, Cody Bremner, is now a member of the Vancouver Stealth.

During his junior year in 2012, Jason Noble was ranked eighth in the nation and was the leader of the 15th ranked defense in the nation. Bremner and Noble as well as Rob Pannell, who was taken in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Wings, will definitely be missed by Cornell, who finished last season ranked third in the nation behind Duke and Syracuse.

These as well as a number of other ranked teams will have the task of replacing these top players for the upcoming season.
