The Custodes of the European Lacrosse League have made several dramatic roster changes before their third tournament, and as they head into the playoffs leading scorer Radek Skala spoke with us about the moves. The Custodes are 4-5 overall, good for third place in the four team league. They will be playing Deutschland Adler in the semi finals round of the playoffs.
“I think chemistry in our team is the biggest problem” Skala told us. “All of our team need to play for each other as a team”
It’s hard to figure out chemistry with so many new players. This past week they added George Castle and Jakub Riha on defense, Patrick Crosby in goal and scorer Dominik Pesek. Pesek scored ten points in his first tournament of the year.
“I think the new players are going to help us a lot. George Castle and Jakub Riha will improve our defense and Dominik Pesek will sure help us with scoring.
“Dominik sure will help to our ofense not just with scoring but also with finding the open guy with passes. I belive we are going score a lot in the final games” Skala told us.
Overall, the Custodes a strong team heading into the playoffs. Skala is the leading scorer in the league and he and Pesek are likely the two best players to come out of the Czech Republic in the past five years. Castle was an NLL defender with the Philadelphia Wings and Crosby a goaltender in the NALL and Sr B, so their defense is much improved after just one tournament.
“All of us need to prepare for playing our best.” Skala says. “I know we can play a a lot better than in last tournament, both on defense and offense, we just need to prove it.”
