Dixon, Gurenlian Named MLL Players of Week

Major League Lacrosse, the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for Week One of the 2013 season, that concluded on April 28. The winners are chosen every week by MLL Commissioner David Grossand are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Chesapeake Bayhawks midfielder Kyle Dixon was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, while New York Lizards face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian took home Warrior Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Dixon led the Bayhawks to a 17-14 win over the Rochester Rattlers Saturday night, highlighted by three two-point goals. This matches the MLL record book for two-point goals in a game, last set by Dixon himself in May of 2012. He also raised his individual career record for two-point goals, hitting 50, furthering the distance from runner-up Roy Colsey who has 33. Two of Dixon’s two-point goals came in the first quarter, as well as an assist to Ben Hunt. His third goal came in the second quarter, accumulating all seven of his points in the first half of the game. Dixon was named Player of the Game, and will look to continue his success this weekend at home against the New York Lizards.

Gurenlian took command of the face-offs, going 21-28 and helped the Lizards to their 14-11 win over the Boston Cannons, Sunday afternoon at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York. Gurenlian will look to pick up right where he left off in the 2012 season, where he earned a .602 FO percentage and finished third in the MLL for face-off win percentage. He hit a .750 face-off win rate Sunday, to go along with eight ground balls. Watch these two weekly winners square off this Saturday, May 4, at 7:00 PM (ET) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis Md. The game will broadcast live regionally on several networks including Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and MSG+.
