Excelsiors Look to Get on Track

The Brampton Excelsiors (2-7) will take on the Six Nations Chiefs (6-1-1) Sunday, June 23 on the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena turf. The game marks the third meeting between the two teams this season, with the Chiefs winning both games.

These teams did battle just days ago when Six Nations was able to secure a 7-5 road win over the Excelsiors. Leading the Chiefs to victory was the duo of Roger Vyse and Cody Jamieson, who combined for five points in the win. Vyse leads the Chiefs in scoring with 34 points, good for fifth best in both MSL points as well as assists(22). Jamieson has been scoring with relative ease, averaging just over four points per game in his six appearances. Six Nations has a stacked offense that features the likes of Colin Doyle, Kasey Beirnes and Craig Point. However, if Brampton can limit the scoring of Vyse and Jamieson, it will ease the pressure of defending the immense offensive skill of the Chiefs.

Goaltender Anthony Cosmo’s presence on Sunday could be the difference maker for Brampton. Ryan Masters has tended the twine during the past two meetings versus the Chiefs. Although Masters was able to hold the high powered Six Nations offense to just seven goals on Thursday, the young goalie does not present the same net presence as the veteran Cosmo. Chiefs goalie Evan Kirk has not allowed more than seven goals against Brampton this season and if the Excelsiors can not solve their scoring woes  versus Six Nations, they must rely on a strong defense. Cosmo has been in net for both of the Excelsiors wins this season.

Offensively for Brampton, Joe Resetarits will be counted on to lead the way. Resetarits has been one of few steady contributors this season and leads the team in scoring with 26 points. Dan Dawson will also be looked at to lead the young Brampton squad. Dawson was held scoreless in the early season loss to Six Nations and did not dress in the most recent meeting. If Dawson is in the line-up on Sunday, his offensive production will be integral if Brampton hopes to pull off the upset.

Face-off for the game is set for 8 p.m.
