On July 11, Day Two of the 2014 FIL World Lacrosse Championships, two teams from the Red Division, Team Germany and Team Belgium would face off. This would be Team Germany’s fourth appearance since they were admitted into the FIL in 1994 where they have never finished above sixth place. Team Belgium would make their first appearance at the FIL World Lacrosse Championships after being admitted in 2010. Final score Germany 12-Belgium 4.
It was apparent that Germany had the upper hand with the experience playing in the FIL as well as the talent. They dominated the game throughout with three goals in the first and second quarters; two in the third; and four in the fourth. They would have seven players hit net: Hen duBois-Reymond would lead the team in points (3 G, 3 A); followed by Phillip Broz, Simon Giourmetakis, and Andrew Rullan each scoring twice; and Killan Bombosch, Lorenz Lehmhaus, and Moritz Spiegel each hitting net once. Germany also dominated in face-offs with Chris Mattes (Florida Launch) winning 13 of 14 face-offs.
Team Belgium was definitely the underdog in the meeting of the two teams. Only four players put the ball between the pipes, each scoring one goal: T Van den Wildenburg; Rodrigue Spillebeen; Loic Van Laurel; and David Taylor. Their problems in the face-off position only made things worse with only 2 for 19 in FOW. The defense was no match for the strong offense of Germany, and Belgium’s offense was shut down entirely by the strong German defense.
Team Stats

Team Germany went up against Team Austria on Saturday July 12, and dominated the game, coming away with the victory by the score of 20-2. Next up Team Hong Kong who squeaked by with a win in OT against Team Austria. I see Team Germany coming away with yet another victory on Sunday July 13, when the two teams face-off at 11:00 a.m.
